A furnished three-room appartment at a nice location with good connections to both Otaniemi (15—20 min by bus or bicycle) and Helsinki city center for a bargain price (with a small catch – we would need several square meters to store our own stuff; see below).
The appartment is available from January 13th to May 20th.

The appartment has a floor area of 80 m², three rooms (two bedrooms, one living room*), a separate kitchen, a bathroom with a toilet, another separate toilet, and a balcony. The layout in the pictures is based on our manual measurements, so it is not 100% precise (it might be 10 cm off here and there) – we used it for the current furniture placement it the three rooms, so it is kind of representative in that sense.
The smaller bedroom has a single bed with some storage space below, the larger one has a DIY double high bed with a lot of storage space below.
The "living room" is currently being used as childrens' room and furnished accordingly (in particular, there is no sofa but there are two bunk beds – one is Ikea Svarta with a desk level below, the other one is a double bunk bed).
You can adjust the layout of the furniture as needed during your stay. Basically all the beds can be disassembled and stored if you want.
There is one catch – there is a nontrivial amount of our stuff that we can't really put somewhere else, so we don't officially sublet the whole appartment to account for this, but you can decide on where our stuff would be stored depending on your preferred layout. I can imagine that we could either put it into the smallest bedroom which would serve as our storage (and would not be included in the sublease) or we could stack it into boxes behind the living room wall unit, effectively making the living room a bit smaller, without clogging the living room visually — whichever you prefer. On the upside, you would have pretty much all the furniture, kitchen equipment etc. available for use. As for the amount of stuff needed to be stored, my estimate is around 8 m² in vertically stacked boxes.
There are also some houseplants, so we would expect you to water them regularly to keep them alive.
Taking this into account, I discount for the area used by our stuff by around 1/4 of the already quite affordable regular rent.
Water and internet are included, electricity bill is paid extra (we have usually paid around 20–25 € / month). The security deposit would amount for one monthly rent.
There is a laundry machine in the bathroom but there is also a common laundry room in the house that one can use (for free; it has its own reservation system).
The appartment also has a weekly sauna reservation in the house sauna for one hour on Saturdays at 15.00–15.59.
There is some equipment that we can either store or leave it for your use during your stay (if you treat it nicely), including:
- a MIDI controller,
- some computer screens, cables, keyboards etc.,
- various tools (electric drill, screwdrivers, hand saws, wrenches etc.),
- a 3D printer (for hackers – requires extruder temperature callibration),
- workout equipment (kettlebells 28, 16, 6 kg; adjustable dumbbells),
- a cage for (larger) pet rodents / rabbits,
- board games.
The kitchen has a slow juicer and a Vitamix blender.
